About the Role
Our team is growing, and we have an opportunity for a Lawyer to join our Compensation Law group reporting to one of our senior Partners.
An opportunity to join Australia's most experienced compensation law practice and work with government and other insurer clients to provide relevant legal advice and manage common law litigation regarding dust diseases and toxic tort claims on behalf of WorkSafe and other insurer clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the end-to-end management of a portfolio of matters
- Client alignment and service, including client strategy reviews
- Working closely with the Partner responsible for the dust diseases and toxic tort portfolio
- Reviewing medical and other expert material
- Liaising with employers, defendants and witnesses
- Researching and providing legal analysis
- Running all aspects of litigation including the interlocutory process, preparing briefs and instructing at Court
- Drafting Court documents
- Engaging and liaising with plaintiffs' representatives, Courts, counsel, doctors, experts and other stakeholders
- Preparing advices
- Appearing at court, conferences and mediations
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction
- 4+ years' PAE (experience in dust diseases and toxic tort litigation highly desired)
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of files end to end
- The ability to manage own workload
- Critical reasoning and investigative skills with the ability to think laterally
- Legal drafting ability
- Effective and timely file management and billing ability
- The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, particularly the ability to earn the confidence and trust of key stakeholders
- Strong influencing and negotiation capability
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organised, able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables
- The ability to question the status quo and offer practical solutions
- Identifies risks and complies with group risk management protocol
